Data Center Operations Tier II Technician

LightEdge is hiring an on-site Tier II technician to operate and maintain its Austin data center and critical facilities. The technician coordinates maintenance, installations, alarm response, change control, and customer support across power, cooling, security, fire protection, and IT infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate vendor maintenance for UPS systems, generators, electrical distribution, cooling, and fire-suppression equipment.
• Troubleshoot data center equipment with technicians, support teams, contractors, and vendors.
• Install servers and network devices with associated cabling and support new customer-service installations.
• Design and coordinate rack and cage layouts, cabling infrastructure, and power connectivity.
• Respond to alarms, create and execute MOPs, follow change controls, and protect 24/7 availability.
• Mentor team members and participate in the on-call rotation for maintenance, repairs, infrastructure optimization, and client support.

Qualifications and requirements

• Two-year technical degree or five to eight years of equivalent technical or military experience.
• Proficiency with Ethernet, telephone, Category 6, single-mode fiber, and multimode fiber installation and cabling.
• Experience with routine data center maintenance and telco central-office equipment.
• Ability to console into and troubleshoot servers, blade chassis, routers, switches, and firewalls from vendors such as Cisco, Fortinet, and Brocade.
• Experience operating generators, transfer switches, PDUs, breaker panels, UPS systems, and data center cooling and airflow systems.
• Strong prioritization, communication, problem-solving, and procedural-documentation skills; building-management-system experience is preferred.
