The Data Center Break/Fix Technician I is an entry-level technical support role responsible for performing basic diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance of server and network hardware within a data center environment. Working under the guidance of senior technicians and team leads, the Tech 1 plays a critical role in maintaining system uptime by responding to hardware incidents, replacing faulty components, and documenting all service activities. Tech 1 will power on new racks and escort vendors as required..
Must be able to:
Break/Fix Support
• Perform physical diagnostics and replace hardware components (e.g., memory, hard drives, network cards, power supplies).
• Follow provided runbooks and SOPs for resolving Level 1 hardware incidents.
• Escalate complex issues to Tech 2/3 or vendor support as needed.
Ticketing & Documentation
• Respond to hardware incident tickets in the ITSM system within SLA timelines.
• Document all interventions, component swaps, and serial number changes in asset management tools.
• Support the inventory management process, including logging parts used and updating stock records.
Hardware Installation & Maintenance
• Assist with server racking, cabling, labeling, and initial power-up tests.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks such as reseating cables, cleaning filters, and inspecting racks.
• Work with team members to support deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning efforts.
Security & Compliance
• Follow all physical security protocols for accessing data halls and managing hardware.
